Strata

£395.00

Strata is a true exploration into geological surfaces emulating bands of sedimentary layers found in cliff faces. Iron oxide and brown slip are wedged into the clay and when the texture is created unexpected layers are formed.

The Striation Series evolved with the introduction of different variables in the form of glaze, oxides and different colour clay. What once appeared to be cliff faces with geological furrows stretching across suddenly morphed into weavings and interwoven textural tendrils growing along the form. By highlighting certain fields with contrasting colours, new forms emerged.  Visual references to art nouveau are abound with whiplash lines and asymmetrical forms.

Thrown and handbuilt stoneware with glaze and oxide, 2024
